HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

What are your perceptions of social class in American 21st century society (basically, in 2014)? Honest opinions please, and if you can, please include whether you are high class, middle class, or working class to see where your bias comes from :) I need your opinions! No one will be judged, I promise :3

OpenStudy (austinl):

The social classes are becoming further and further stratified. The rich are becoming richer, the poor are becoming poorer. All because of how our current system works. It favors and gives a leg up to the privileged, and makes life difficult for those that aren't as lucky. Myself, I am middle-class because of my income. However I come from an upper-class family. Hope that helped :)

O_O

OpenStudy (charlotte123):

Um I mean I AGREE WITH AUSTINS OPINION O.O

OpenStudy (taylor<3srin):

Social classes are like Austin said however, social classes have always been this way. It really doesn't change much, with exception to a political issue (Uprising, the rich generally get poor during these). I also would add that under Barack Obama, people may think that he is trying to give the middle and working class a hand. When in reality, he is asking for them to pay for others health care, making it not "free" essentially. Sort of off topic I know, just thought I'd add that. Working class-Middle Class family.

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

alright. thanks guys! I'll keep this open if anyone wishes to add something in the future

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

Meh, I'll avoid ACA, since it's very heated and I do not know that much about it to make an accurate statement. On the other hand, I believe that social classes are moving towards increased stratification in the US due to the shift in political parties from ideals to self gain. My opinion of today's society is that individuals are becoming more and more self-centered, which in turn leads to higher social stratification. That being said, while we are moving towards higher stratification, we are still improving as a nation as a whole, just much more slowly than before. We're in dire need for a lot of reform...

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

i must ask you, sorry this is like a super later reply, but ... @Taylor<3sRin 1.) What kind of middle class is your family? Upper middle, or lower middle? If you want my specific guide, here's the website: http://udel.edu/~cmarks/What%20is%20social%20class.htm 2.) Do you identify yourself as a liberal or a conservative ? (we be talking political parties here)

OpenStudy (taylor<3srin):

While growing up in my families house, I would say we were Upper Middle Class. Now that I am on my own however, I am a Lower Middle Class member of the working class. I identify as a Liberal, all the way.

OpenStudy (wwhitlock):

Every person does what is in his own self interest, no matter the social standing, wealth, age or political affiliation. It has ever been so. To say that the rich only look out for themselves is true enough, but is not the whole truth. Poor people look out for themselves as do middle class. This is the best time to be alive. There is more opportunity for good now than at any time before. And this is the country that has the most opportunity. Black, brown, red or green, gay or straight or whatever or even white male, your situation is better than your ancestors. To be poor in America is than being poor in any other country. In fact the poor here have a higher standard of living than middle class in many countries. That is not to say we don't have problems. And I wouldn't suggest that anyone be satisfied with their situation because they are doing better by comparison. But realize how fortunate you are. Your living in the best system any human has ever lived in. You have more opportunity for good than any generation before you in any society.
