4x -3 -2y +10 -5x

OpenStudy (sheraz12345):

is equal to wat?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need the answer of what 4x-3-2y+10-5x will be

OpenStudy (sheraz12345):

U can simplify it so it becomes -x-2y+7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah ty! :)

OpenStudy (sheraz12345):

That was easy.. U should have done it.. i thought u meant something else

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

@Celinski do you understand how that was done?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, now i do. First you take 4x-5x so you get -x, then -2y and then -3+10 so it gets to 7. That will be -x-2y+7

OpenStudy (sheraz12345):

Good

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But how do i count out 6a-12+4a-8? Is it 2a+4?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

It's not 2a+4

OpenStudy (sheraz12345):

no.. think again.. try to separate out variables keeping in mind the signs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it 10a-20?

OpenStudy (sheraz12345):

Yup

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Don't guess change $$6a-12+4a-8$$ into $$6a +(-12) + 4a +(-8)$$ now use the commutative property of addition to move like terms together, then simplify

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

recall: $$a-b= a+(-b)$$

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

To subtract b, add the opposite of b.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is the answer 10a-20? or 10a+20?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

(-12) + (-8) = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-4?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Why? -4
