Which three ordered pairs complete the table to give solutions of the equation y = x – 5? A. (–3, –2), (0, –5), and (3, 2) B. (–3, –2), (0, –5), and (3, –2) C. (–3, –8), (0, –5), and (3, 2) D. (–3, –8), (0, –5), and (3, –2) really need help and will also become a fan and giving medals

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you need help filling that T table in?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you need help with?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need help with trying to solve it and I don't lnow if I am correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the x they give you is the first number in the coordinate pair (x , y) thus the first ordered pair is (-3, y)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know but im not understanding any of it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, lets do the first one together?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if y = x-5, and x = -3, then if we put in -3 wherever we see x, it turns out to the problem y=(-3)-5.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so y = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got -8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct. so.. your y coordinate for the ordered pair is (x, y) = (-3, -8).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

an equation can always be put on a graph. the ordered pairs are simply a point on that line. y = x-5 is the graph y=x shifted to the right 5 units. the graph of y=x is a straight line that passes through the origin (0, 0), if you pick that graph up, and move it over 5 spaces, the points a long that line is what they are asking you to find.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the next one should be easy, y = x-5 if x =0 y = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you understand how to do these? or should I keep trying to help? is this helping?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a little

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the table you attached is the best way to do it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i know it has to be c or d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok lets do the last one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=x-5 if x=3. substitute 3 wherever you see x and solve the equation. tell me what your choice is for the above question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

C.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y = (3) - 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so am I correct or am I wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhhhhhhhhh nvm D.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

booh yah!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

becaus -3-5=-2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

great work!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good luck

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx
