A young patient is diagnosed with the genetic disorder lactose intolerance, which results in the inability to digest milk products due to a missing enzyme called lactase. What is most likely the cause of lactose intolerance in this patient?

Welcome to OpenStudy! ^_^

OpenStudy (petiteme):

Diseases of the digestive system results in a decreased production of lactase. Some children are also born unable to produce the enzyme. For most people, however, lactase deficiency develops naturally because, after about two years of age, the body produces less lactase.
