Which word is the subject of the sentence? Has someone found his missing book?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Book

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tht what i think

OpenStudy (jumperman):

Book is the correct answer. Someone, who? Found, found what? What is missing? who is he? Book sounds like a reasonable answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey i need help with figuring out how that stuff works i was never good at gum but i'm trying

OpenStudy (phebe):

Book

OpenStudy (phebe):

the correct answer is book that's what thytlkin bout :)

OpenStudy (jumperman):

Well, I think of it like this. Ask the questions of each word. Has? Has what? Someone, who? Found, what am I looking for, what is found? His? who is he, no clarification on who that is. Missing, what or who is missing? The book is what is missing, it is his book, that is what they found.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks i'm taking notes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it is someone. Someone has found his missing book

OpenStudy (phebe):

yea i look at it lik tha too @Jumperman

OpenStudy (anonymous):

book is the direct object

OpenStudy (jumperman):

Interesting Kellie, but who is that someone? and does someone follow missing? or found?

OpenStudy (phebe):

no book is the subject @ kelliegirl33

OpenStudy (jumperman):

I have been taught that sometimes the direct object can be the subject. Other times it isn't. I think it mainly depends on what the sentence says.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I still disagree. Find the verb...it is "found ". Who found ? Someone found. Found what ? His -- indirect object missing -- adjective book -- direct object

OpenStudy (jumperman):

I agree with the verb being found. It could go both ways. You might be right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There can be subject pronouns

OpenStudy (jumperman):

Hmmm... I have never heard of that before, could you give me some examples?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

subject pronouns are pronouns that are the subject of the sentence. He ran for mayor. She is hungry.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait i don't mean to interupt this heated discussion but this was a choice answer

OpenStudy (jumperman):

oh then what are the choices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

true....it is not my choice...all I can do is give my opinion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

book,his,and found

OpenStudy (jumperman):

Oh ok hungry would be the pronoun right?

OpenStudy (jumperman):

then its book.

OpenStudy (jumperman):

When there is multiple choice question make sure you give the choices or else we will be on a long rabbit trail trying to figure it out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh...I see His book was found by someone you all got me.....you win ...lol :)

OpenStudy (jumperman):

No you had some good arguments.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey butt tat was an amazing argument you had great points

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol....I tried :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that

OpenStudy (jumperman):

we did.
