How is oil and gas gathered? and Does the natural resource have to be changed or processed before it can be used by people or machines?
Natural gas produced by our customers is gathered through our pipelines and transported to our plants, where it is processed or treated to meet downstream pipeline quality standards. Depending on the components of the gas we handle, we process the raw gas by removing the water and separating the natural gas liquids (NGLs) from the dry gas. In locations where there are minimal amounts of NGLs, the gas is treated through an amine treating process to remove carbon dioxide and dehydrated to remove remaining water. These processes ensure that the natural gas meets regulatory and contractual specifications for use by industrial, commercial and residential users. Residue gas is then delivered to pipelines for transportation to consuming markets. NGLs such as ethane, propane, butane, iso-butane and natural gasoline that are extracted during processing are valuable products used as feedstocks by the petrochemical and refining industries. Our processing services include the extraction of NGLs, treating for removal of carbon dioxide if required, and delivery into downstream NGL pipelines for our customers. Over 95% of our gathering, compression, processing and treating business operate under a fixed-fee contracts with our customers.
