Why is oil described as both a blessing and a curse for Africa??

Oil is a blessing because it allows them to generate enormous profits as a state. But it's a curse because they then have little interest in diversifying their economy, which is essential for many things. Corruption and tyranny typically are the worst side effects of a nation rich and oil and little else.

I think United Nations launch an effort to remember history because they want us to be aware it was wrong. It created a work force you don't have to pay. It made the economy thrive because plenty of work gets done. It is morally wrong though, to own another person. Slavery can also cause conflicts and wars. And we don't want that.
