Which of the following BEST describes the theory of natural selection -Each species produces many more offspring than can survive long enough to reproduce. -The offspring that do survive contain genes that are inherited from the parents. -Some individuals have genes that increase their chances for survival and reproduction. These individuals are more likely to reproduce and pass on their genes, causing their genes to become more common in the next generation. -Living organisms change over time. -There is a struggle for existence among the members of a population. -There is variation among the members of a species. Some of this variation is genetically determined and so can be passed on to future generations. -The genetic make-up of a population gradually changes from one generation to the next.

natural selection -the process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks you for explaining

OpenStudy (petiteme):

Natural selection is a theory which basically states that the organisms who have traits which make them better equipped to survive in their environment will go on to reproduce and populate the earth. The organisms which are not as “fit” will die out. Natural selection is the driving force behind Darwin’s theory of evolution.

OpenStudy (destinymasha):

So C would be correct? @petiteme

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you your explanation of Darwin's theory

OpenStudy (petiteme):

Yeah :D @Destinymasha

OpenStudy (petiteme):

Welcome to OpenStudy! ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you! it's my first time. I really don't know how this place work and I also helo others?

OpenStudy (destinymasha):

yes, just click on a question you would like to answer. - when you're done, wait for a notification telling you whether you got a medal/mention, etc

OpenStudy (destinymasha):

what happened?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh no i typed it twice haha thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is your major Destinymasha?

OpenStudy (destinymasha):

-you dont have to wait until you get a notification by the way, you can go somewhere else... - when you're done asking a question, press close.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, as in college... what are you taking

OpenStudy (destinymasha):

im not in college lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay lol

OpenStudy (petiteme):

I'm in college ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

me too! 6 classes ugh

OpenStudy (petiteme):

Goodluck! ^_^

Match each description or example with the characteristic of life that it BEST illustrates. 1. The roots of a plant grow toward a source of water. - SENSITIVITY 2. The body temperature of a dog is more stable than the temperature of its environment.- HOMEOSTASIS 3. A cat is composed of organ systems, which are composed of organs, which are composed of tissues, which are composed of cells.- ORDERED COMPLEXITY 4. A bacterial cell divides to form two new cells.-REPRODUCTION 5. In order to carry out essential life functions such as growth, development, and movement, a duck must eat. EVOLUTION 6. In 1980, scientists determined that 2% of the honey bees in Texas had a gene that makes them more aggressive. By 2005, the frequency of this gene in the Texas honeybee population had increased to 15%. ENERGY UTILIZATION I CAN ONLY USE THOSE 6 TERMS .... CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF I GOT THEM RIGHT? =/

Living systems are governed by the same principles of chemistry and physics that govern non-living systems T OR F ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cells are composed of chemicals and both the structure and function of cells are regulated by the basic principles of chemistry T or F

An input of energy is required to maintain the complexity of living systems. T OR F
