8(x - 1) < 2x + x - 3 answers to choose from x < 5 x < -5 x < -1 x < 0 x < 1

OpenStudy (ybarrap):

$$ 8(x - 1) < 2x + x - 3\\ 8x-8<2x + x - 3\\ 8x-8<3x-3\\ 8x-3x<-3+8\\ 5x<5\\ x<5 $$ Make sense?

Thank you, I get the first step. Although I'm lost after you did <3x−3 8x−3x<−3+8 . Math isn't one of my strongest subjects.

OpenStudy (ybarrap):

After < 3x - 3, this is what I did: $$ x−8<3x−3\\ \text{Bring all "x" terms to one side and all constants to the other:}\\ 8x−3x<−3+8\\ \text{Simplify each side:}\\ 5x<5\\ \text{Divide both sides by 5 to eliminate the constant in front of the x, so isolate the x:}\\ \cfrac{5x}{5}<\cfrac{5}{5}=1\\ \cfrac{\cancel{5}x}{\cancel{5}}<\cfrac{5}{5}=1\\ x < 1 $$ Make more sense?

OpenStudy (ybarrap):

*Please note the correction I made at the end x<1 NOT x<5
