cube root of 32

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First, look at definitions: The cube root of a number, is something which, multiplied by itself 3 times, gives the number. Then, use the rule that roots can be distributed over products (multiplications) and quotients (divisions). cubeRoot(a) * cubeRoot(b) = cubeRoot(ab) cubeRoot(a) / cubeRoot(b) = cubeRoot(a/b) Warning, this does NOT work for additions and subtractions. 32 = 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 cubeRoot(32) = cubeRoot(2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2) = cubeRoot(2 * 2 * 2) * cubeRoot(2*2) If the "number" is (2 * 2 * 2), what number, multiplied by itself three times, gives (2 * 2 * 2)? It must be 2. cubeRoot(2 * 2 * 2) = 2 cubeRoot(32) = 2 * cubeRoot(4)
