A cone is placed inside a cylinder. The cone has half the radius of the cylinder, but the height of each figure is the same. The cone is tilted at an angle so its peak touches the edge of the cylinder’s base. What is the volume of the space remaining in the cylinder after the cone is placed inside it?

wouldn't it be the difference between the volume of the cylinder and the cone?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/2(pi)r^2h

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you mean (1/3)pi r^2 h?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my choices are (3/4)pi r^2h (2/3)pi r ^2h (11/12)pi r^2h (5/6)pi r^2h (1/2)pi r^2h

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pi r^2 h - (1/3) pi (r/2)^2 h = (11/12)pi r^2 h

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i find the volume of the cylinder then the volume of the cone and subtract to find the volume surrounding the outside of the cone.

phew thank you!!!
