The architects side view drawing of a saltbox-style house shows a post that supports the roof ridge. The support post is 10 ft tall. How far from the front of the house is the support post positioned? (picture attached)

6 ft? don't take my answer for it . I didn't do any work.

I want the work so I can understand it though.

smart. good idea

This is a tough one (I think) Triangle A B D and Triangle A1 A D are similar. I am assuming that triangle A B D and triangle A1 A D are 30 60 90 triangles. If the support post is 10 feet then BD (the distance to the front) is AD times the (1/(square root of 3) or 10 • .5774 = 5.774 ********************************************************************************** As I said I just guessed that both triangles are 30 60 90 triangles. Perhaps the way to prove this is by showing that (AD/BD) and (AD/ A1D) and (A1 A / AB) all equal (2 / Sq root (3)) = 1.155
