An airline allows each passenger 48 kilograms of luggage. Carl has to lower the weight of his suitcase by 25% to stay within the limit. How much did his suitcase originally weigh?
his suitcase was overweight by 25% from whatever he had, what he had was 100% of course, the whole weight well, we know that when he dropped 25% of that, he ended up with 48kgs so \( \begin{array}{ccllll} quantity&percentage\\ \hline\\ x&100\\ 48&25 \end{array}\bf \implies \cfrac{x}{48}=\cfrac{100}{25}\)
hmm... I got the wrong percentage.. =) one sec \(\begin{array}{llll} quantity&percentage\\ \hline\\ x&100\\ 48&75 \end{array}\bf \implies \cfrac{x}{48}=\cfrac{100}{75}\) if he dropped 25%, 75% had to be within the allowed weight, that is 75% is 48kg
Oh yea that works now thanks!
