why does my computer freeze up then crash whenever i try to type in the comment field? it just freezes, the mouse, everything! i can't answer peoples questions or type comments on my own questions discussing things with people? is this a computer or openstudy issue?

Definitely a computer issue.
Does it also happen in the chat?

If it's caused by a crashing script on the site, your browser is the problem, because the site cannot cause your computer to crash. A browser might, if you have very little random access memory.

Try OpenStudy in a different browser, google chrome should work best.
