How is genetic engineering like computer programming?
I'm not sure if this is quite the answer you'r looking for but… During protein synthesis, the DNA essentially tells the cell what proteins to make that trait "show up". When you are programming a computer, you are telling the computer what to do and how to function.

In computer programming, you can changed certain variables, you can change how the program functions and what the eventual output will be. In genetic engineering, think of each bit of DNA as a bit of code. Scientists can "program" the DNA to be whichever way they want to, almost. But as in computer programming, there are "essential difficulties" and "accidental difficulties". Essential difficulties are like inherent and you can't change them, kind of like how in some cases of GE, you can't change certain factors in the DNA. Accidental difficulties in computer programming can be fixed manually. In GE, this happens as well.
