how can you tell the differcen between inequations and equations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An EQUATION is a mathematical statement that shows two expressions to be equal in value using mathematical symbols: eg., 5x + 5 = 15 and there is specific solution(s) and in this case x =2 Whereas an inequality is statement that uses the symbols > (greater than), < (less than), ≥ (greater than or equal to), ≤ ( less than or equal to) to indicate that one of the quantity is larger or smaller than another. It gives a range of values eg., 5x + 5 > 15 In this case this statement is true for any value of x that is greater than 2
