Solve for x: −4|x + 5| = −16
|2x + 6| − 4 = 20
|x + 2| + 16 = 14
3|x − 8| + 15 = 18

Well this is exactly like solving a normal equation just that the numbers in bars " | |" are converted to positive because it is absolute value.

so for the first one it is as follows

1.)-4|x+5|=-16
Use distributive: \[-4\times|x+5| =|-4x+20| \]
2) so then it looks like this |4x+20|=-16

3) then just solve for "x" meaning leave "x" by itself. So to do that you need to subtract 20 from both sides

Then just isolate x by dividing 4 and there you go.
