For my class I need to get the number of letters in peoples first and last names, I am using them for is to determine if one of my classmates ideas is true that people with longer first names have shorter last names and vice versa.

How did they collate data? How did they ensure a large enough random sample occurred? If they did not do these things, then they did not study anything and have simply fabricated stuff.
