In a falling body, give an example of an action-reaction pair of forces. well i guess, the air resistance and force of gravity acting on the body right??
@wolfe8 @agent0smith
No, these two forces are not an action-reaction pair.
no? O.o then which pair of forces is related to action-reaction force acting on a falling body?
the object pushes the air down , while the air pushes the object back...isn't it?
This one is correct.
oh, maybe i should choose my words wisely ^.^ thanks !!
If you went with the force of gravity pulling the object down, the reaction is the object pulling back up on the earth with an equal gravitational force.
can i still say that even the object is still falling or it only applies when the object is in contact with the ground? @agent0smith
It applies AALLWWAAYYSS
When it's in contact with the ground, is gravity not acting on it? It applies anywhere in the universe - earth's gravitational field knows no bounds.
Newton's third law applies equally for contact forces and non-contact forces.
what i mean is the object will still have a reaction force with the force of gravity when it is still in the air? O.o -sorry i think my mind is thinking differently O.O
Yes, three times yes! The Earth pulls on the Moon and the Moons pulls equally on the Earth. In your example, the only difference between "touching" and "not touching" lies not in the existence of the pair of forces, but in their intensity. Of course, the forces will be greater on impact, than they are during the fall.
aahh, i see.. wow thanks a lot, i learned additional info today ! (^_^)
Gravity acts between any two objects, and each one feels the same force pulling it towards the other. eg. the earth feels the same gravitational force as the falling object does.
one more question :) the gravitational pull depends on the masses of the objects and their distance to each other right? or there's something else?
That's it, directly proportional to the product of the masses, and inversely proportional to the square of the distance
oh okay ^_^
