Did you look at the page I linked? It explains it pretty well, but it is not the only reference out there. The Purdue web site also has some good references: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/606/01/ Oh, and the line "It explains it pretty well, but it is not the only reference out there." is a bridge there. It really is that simple. Use words and ideas in one paragraph that relate it to the next one. This creates a flow of topics. That flow can be as simple as from one to the next, or foreshadow later parts. But bridges are usually local. Therefore, bridges can be very important for helping people understand a paper. Understanding is always the goal. This might come in the form of them agreeing with your argument, or being entertained, or a number of other possibilities. However, if they are simply confused or led astray, then they get nothing from the paper. Oh, and did you notice my second example bridge?
