What is the selection process to become a moderator? Just wondering.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I heard that it's really tough and exclusive...

Hi, There is no selection process - there is no system or application. How can you become a moderator? You don't. You simply don't. There is no, "how to," tutorial. Be good. Be kind and mature. Show your merits, be active and friendly. Know the Code of Conduct and serve your community. Have your best intentions at heart. Even some of the worst people can become kind and loving, and receive the rank of moderator. So don't ever get discouraged. Just do your best and always thrive - help users, be a figure and represent the morals and foundation of OpenStudy. But, above all, and most importantly; be compassionate.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And so the OS team will choose you?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Hmm. Oh, well, that's not up to me nor any moderator to decide. You may. You may not. But if you hang in there, who knows what'll happen.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All right then, well, thanks a lot for the knowledge.

It does feel great, knowing I've helped somebody and received appreciation like what austinL said in http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/527a6e5ae4b0dc82d5431ad2

"One day I was at the store buying some food, ramen to be exact (delicious and nutritious). This was shortly after the events of my break-up. I was lost, depressed, and spiraling downwards and all it took was the actions of one little girl to make my week. I was in the middle of the aisle and this little girl just ran up to me and wrapped her little arms around my legs in a hug. I was confused for a second then I gave her an awkward little bent over hug back. Her father came along and walked her away. I could hear him say, “You don’t just hug strangers, sweetie.” To which she responded, “But he looked really sad daddy.” That one little girl, with her actions and words made my day; hell, she even made my week. That one little girl was able to see the pain in some random schmuck (me) in Wal-Mart and try her very best to make them happy." -quoted from austinL

O_o like comp said.. there's no process

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

"...But, above all, and most importantly; be compassionate..." I am wondering the implications of this sentence.. :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, compassionate is compassionate, so...

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

If you Google it using the site: method you can find a lot of answers about the informal process.
