OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

There's many civil war sites you could check out. I will not write your essay for you. That would be plagiarism unless you wrote my name saying I did it. here's a good site. http://www.civilwar.org/education/history/faq/ <-

What are the questions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

#1 You are a United States senator from the state of Kentucky in 1860. America is on the brink of civil war unless someone can come up with a compromise that makes the North and South happy. Before you is a map (1820) of the United States with the Missouri Compromise line of 1820 on it. There is also a list of compromises that have been tried as well as those that have failed. The territories of Arizona and New Mexico want to be admitted to the Union as Slave states. This will upset the balance of power in the Senate. The northern parts of both territories are north of the 36°30' line, which divides Slave and Free states. Is there a compromise that will satisfy both sides? Write a 250-word essay defending your compromise. Try to maintain the balance of power in the Senate unless you can come up with an idea that will appease both sides while allowing Arizona and New Mexico to become Slave states.

#2 Make a list of the reasons the colonists rebelled against England and another list of the reasons the South rebelled against the Union. Compare and contrast the reasons. After comparing and contrasting the two "revolutions," how are the two causes different? Considering the freedoms given to Americans in the Constitution, were the Southern states justified in seceding from the Union based on slavery and states' rights? Once you've compared the reasons, take one side and write a 250-word essay supporting your point of view.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wow ... it's on a lot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah and I'm just a freshman lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

#1 you are on your own on that one.. sorry. But #2 I can help you with tomorrow... my brain is too fried for the night to do all that. But tomorrow I'll help for sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is there any info you can give about #2..? Cause that's the one I'm workin on now. I understand if you can't, though.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm pullin an all-nighter so I can get my stuff done. I do online school, so I have a plan... If I get ahead, my teachers will let me start my sophomore year early, like in the summertime. So If I do school all year round, I can graduate early:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok well lets start one by one ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But anyways, this is what I have so far for essay #2 The colonists rebelled against England because of taxes, religious freedom, and they were being denied their rights. The South rebelled against the Union because the South wanted slavery because all their money came almost exclusively from farms, while the Union wanted to abolish slavery. The North and South had different economies. The North was all about industry and people making a living on wages, while the South mainly had plantations and they wanted slaves who would work free and only receive food, water and housing. Colonists wanted freedom from the king's doing of oppression, while the South simply wanted freedom to do what they wanted. The colonists didn't actually have a right to rebel per say so it was an actual rebellion while the south had a right to the Constitution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok you have a good start

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you... I'm trying to think of more ways of how the causes are different.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was reading up on these two because it's been awhile since I have done anything with England... I know more about us history. But in reading I found your exact words from yahoo .. so don't use that for your essay or you will get in trouble and get a zero on the paper

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can't get caught cheating in online school lol it's basically impossible.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is just a rough draft, too. I'm not even done with it. I know how to change up the wording, I do it all the time lol it's easy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay just giving you the heads up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think another difference is colonists rebelled against England and wanted to rule England where the south didn't want to rule the union they just wanted to be able to keep African americans lower than them and not have equal rights

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Colonists didn't wanna rule England, they just wanted freedom from England

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well then maybe that's it right there too... the colonist wanted freedom but the south didn't want to give the slaves their freedom ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just throwing out ides ..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*ideas

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know a big part of the problem was that the British were unlawfully taxing the colonist and the South wasn't taxing anyone .. they just weren't paying for the work done by the slaves

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uughhh .. idk i'm really just fishing for ideas to give you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You helped me a lot, thank you:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're welcome .. wish I could have helped more.. my brain is fried for the night.. I have to be up in 3 1/2 hours for school

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand completely. You helped a lot, I promise. I really appreciate it:)
