Channel and carrier proteins are involved in the passage of molecules from the extracellular compartment to inside the cell.
Some proteins have receptors, therefore called receptor proteins, involved in cell-to-cell recognition or when some hormone binds to it triggers some kind of cellular response. Hope it helps. =)
