Um, not quite sure what you meant with you're reply above, but a flashback is an area in a story where they "go back in time", normally for a memory that would serve the purpose of the plot. For instance, if the story takes place in 2013, the author could include a flashback anywhere from the hour before, to as far as the person can remember. Hope this helped a bit. x
