determine whether the problem should be solved using the formula for an arithmetic sequence, arithmetic series, geometric sequence, or geometric series. Explain your answer in complete sentences. You do not need to solve. Jackie deposited $5 into a checking account in February. For each month following, the deposit amount was doubled. How much money was deposited in the checking account in the month of August?

well first of all you can eliminate series. In math series just means sum. while sequence means a pettern. Series means the sum of that pattern. When they ask what is the XXXX of month YYYY you can interpret that as what is the xxxxth number in the sequence. We are half way there. Also NOtice they didn't ask what is the total up to the YYYYth month. But instead what did you deposit that month.

as for arithmatic or geometric. in an arithmetic sequence the difference between the term never changes. like 1 2 3 4 5 6 has common difference of 1 4 6 8 10 12 has common difference of 2 where as geometric the next term doubles for example your case 1 2 4 8 16 keeps double there is no common difference.
