Have you heard of the 3 Rs? It's Relief, Recovery, and Reform. :)
A great phrase:
Relief for the unemployed and poor
Recovery of the economy to normal levels
Reform of the financial system to prevent a repeat depression

The New Deal was a set of programs only in the U.S. that took effect in 1993-1938.
Did this work? Definitely! It greatly helped the Great Depression, but remember that it didn't truly end it.
