Question

In Sophocles's ancient Greek tragedy Antigone, the character of Antigone chooses to follow her own conscience and oppose the power of the state as embodied by Creon, the ruler of Thebes. In contrast, Creon states that disobedience to the law is the greatest evil.

Which character's position or actions do you tend to agree with? In your world, under what circumstances would opposition like Antigone’s be justified? Is Creon's adamant belief in the purpose and power of the law ever justifiable? Do you think such a belief is a trait of a good ruler or a bad ruler?

Antigone isn't that hard to understand, I remember some of that story, just take a little more time to read it..

Creon is selfish and would like to finish his revenge to his opponent by destroying his body. Antigone only wants to do the last service to her brother. Therefore I agree with her.

The opposition could be justified as the fight of young age against the rigid old age.

This belief belongs only to his own command and is therefore unjustifiable.

A wise ruler should consult his commands with the government.
