Is 1:18 the same as 18:1, if not what makes them different.

no.... order is important in ratio

say you have 2 people... Tom and Jerry who are sharing money

the ratio 1:18 means that Tom would get 1 for every 18 that Jerry gets

if the ratio 18:1 means that Tom gets 18 for every 1 that Jerry gets...

hopefully you can see that for the different ratios... Tom and Jerry get different amounts.
