Why did President Truman call the McCarran Act "a mockery of the Bill of Rights"? It banned certain types of speech and allowed certain people to be "detained" without a warrant. It forced people to follow a specific religion and prohibited them from bearing arms. It prohibited states from passing their own security laws. It forced citizens to allow U.S. troops to set up command posts in their towns.
