What was the American public’s opinion about joining the League of Nations? The public thought that America should lead the League of Nations. The public generally supported the idea but wanted to play a smaller role. It supported the president and actively took part in the League of Nations. It believed that the United States should stay out of European affairs.

American public opinion was overwhelmingly against joining the League of Nations. The Senate overwhelming rejected the treaty that established the League and the United States did not join it, even though it had very strong support fro President Woodrow Wilson.
