Christine purchased a prepaid phone card for $20 . Long distance calls cost 12 cents a minute using this card. Christine used her card only once to make a long distance call. If the remaining credit on her card is $17, how many minutes did her call last?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

I would use a multistep way rather than an equation for this. My way was to first subtract 20-17=3. That would result to that Christine used up $3 already by her call. Since we also know that one minute equals to $0.12, you can divide 3/0.12 to get how many minutes she has talked. But after you do the computation, you get the quotient of 25 minutes. Answer- 25 minutes.

@calculusxy is correct by double checking it: .12 cents times 25 min = 3 min....the money taken from her card

thanks both of you :)
