Spain will leave Cuba, which will in effect give the US full control of Cuba. Even though that the terms is that Cuba will have its own government and be free.
US can use the whole of Cuba for Naval purposes

while the US stated that Cuba will be free and will have its own government, the Platt ensures that Cuba cannot enter a treaty with another country other than the US.
It also provided the US an almost full control of the country, but restricting it with other provisions and by installing a right to intervene at any cost to preserve Cuba itself.
Cuba was like a satellite land to advance US' expansion, which later on happened in the Far East part of Pacific as well.

that was the idea behind it
US wanted a monopoly of Cuba's resources and commerce
with the idea that US will provide security for Cuba, it will suck all of its resources in return. This was not written but these are obvious implications.
