Copenhagen began in the 11th century as a small fishing village. In fact, the name Copenhagen comes from the phrase Køpmannæhafn that means "merchants' harbor." The city stays true to its maritime roots, and much of the architecture stands gloriously on the canals and islands of Eastern Zealand. Visitors can see much of the city’s landmarks by taking a boat tour. Some of the best sites include the royal palace, a statue of Prince Frederick mounted on his horse, and the golden spire of the Church of Our Savior. Tivoli, the world’s oldest amusement park, is another great place to visit in Copen
