Use the image below to answer the following question. Find the value of sin x° and cos y°. What relationship do the ratios of sin x° and cos y° share? PIC BELOW IN COMMENTS WILL GIVE MEDAL AND FAN
First use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the hypotenuse of that triangle.
How do I do that when I have no numbers to work with?
Do you see that little red thing on that triangle?
Oh my gosh I was looking at the wrong problem. Lol okay so we have 8^2+6^2=c^2 which is 64+36=c^2 which is 100=c^2 which would be 10, correct?
yes. What is the measure of the side that is opposite the angle whose measure is x degrees?
6.
@Mertsj
And what is the hypotenuse?
10. @Mertsj
The definition of sin x is side opposite angle x/hypotenuse
So what is the sin of x?
Uhhhh.......
6/10? @Mertsj
Reduce it
3/5. @Mertsj
so sin x = 3/5 Now do the same thing for cos y except the definition of cosy is side adjacent angle y/hypotenuse.
Okay so wait. Would opposite over hypotenuse be 8/10 which is 4/5? I think I got my numbers mixed up and cos is supposed to be 3/5. Double check me? @Mertsj
So the sin would be 4/5 and the cos would be 3/5. The last part of the question is what relationship do they have?
@Mertsj
sin x = 3/5 cos y = 3/5 The relationship between sin x and cos y is that they are equal.
Ohhhh....I understand now.
