Help please What is the value for x in the proportion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the proportion?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ x+8 }{ 5x-2 }=\frac{ 3 }{ 8 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you think you have to do? Before I explain.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

umm simplify

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exactly. So in doing that what would the first step be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

find the like variables

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No! You have to cross multiply! Do you know what that is? You need to take 3 and multiply it with 5x-2 and take 8 and multiply it with x+8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3(5x-2)=15x-6 then 8(x+8)=8x+64. After that it is all one big problem, THEN you find like terms. Then your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So: Find like terms here: 15x-6+8x+64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

umm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

15x+8x=23x and 64-6=58. Your answer: 23x+58.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you! :3

OpenStudy (anonymous):
