France became Un-competitive with other industrialized countries during the 1920's. The reason was its archaic economic model. There was practically no concentration of capital and agriculture, the country's strength for centuries, was totally Un-mechanized. Three-quarters of French farms in the 1930's were of less than 10 hectares.
