You receive a prescription for 15g of a topical steroid cream containing a 12% concentration. Your pharmacy only has 10% and 15% concentrations. How much of each can you combine to fill this prescription ?
Set up a system of equations, then solve it. If x is the amount of 10% cream, and y is the amount of 15% cream, our equations look like this.\[x+y=15\]\[10x+15y=12(15)=180\]Multiply the first equation by -10 and add it to the second. You will get an equation you can solve to get y. Take that number, put it into the first equation to get x. Write your answer and brag. Do math every day.
x+y=15 0.1x+0.15y=0.12*15 x = 9, y = 6
