Yes definitely! A person's beliefs shifts their actions in a given unique situation, and influence the way they present themselves in public. Beliefs are important as they serve as self-identity, to know what you want to do in life. Also, if a nation-state is doing something wrong, a person feels more strongly to participate in civil disobedience if their beliefs are being challenged and are strongly rooted into the individual Individuals and reformers like MLK and Gandhi were successful because of their strong determination and beliefs Thank you for listening to my argument @vampirediaries :)

i believe so…especially if the person's beliefs are deeply rooted in their psychological being My beliefs, personally, are largely connected to my religion and education. The doctrines presented here have given me a worldview that i use on a daily basis

If you think about it, the entirety of Philosophy comes from the examination of beliefs. Every formal science is a child of Philosophy. So the concept you are asking about is the foundation of all modern science. It also has a ton to do with lots of other topics too!

What would be a counterexample if some people define themselves by what they believe?

Well, if they define themselves completely based on their beliefs, it would be a bit narcissistic. Someone who would be the very opposite of that would be codependent. That is one set of polar opposites in that topic. You could argue that someone that believes all the ads they see would be another example.
