A hole is drilled in a metal plate. When the temperature of the plate is raised, does the hole get larger or smaller? Explain.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as the hole is in a metal so metal will expand when heated as a result the hole will get smaller due to expansivity of the metal.

We did this earlier. If the plate is not constrained/confined, all dimensions will increase as it is heated, including the diameter of the hole.
