Help me please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's an isosceles trapezoid which means that the two sides are equal: AB=CD so set it as: \(AB=CD\\\frac{1}{2}x+8=x-4\) and solve for \(x\), then substitute it on the equation for \(AB=\frac{1}{2}x+8\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do i do first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

collect like terms, for example: 2a + 3= a -4, we collect the term which has the variable "a" and the terms without the variable so it will become 2a-a = -4-3, simplifying it will become a=-7 did you get it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no im sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'll tell you what to do, step by step from the equation above: \(\frac{1}{2}x+8=x−4\) we collect the terms with variable "x" to do that, subtract both sides by \(\frac{1}{2}x\) can you do that for me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wpu;d both sides be 8 n -4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(\frac{1}{2}x+8- \Large{\frac{1}{2}x} = x-4 - \Large {\frac{1}{2}x} \) \(\frac{1}{2}x\) on the left side will cancel out, next you need to simplify the right side//

OpenStudy (anonymous):

woul it be 7.50?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did you work it out already? i got a different answer though :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i ment for the left side or is that not what im suppose to do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you get 7.50?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know. im so confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me show you then :) |dw:1391885948455:dw|
