what measure of central tendency should be used when there is a wide range of data?

someone, please HELP

OpenStudy (ybarrap):

The median reduces the effect of large outliers that will result in a wide range or high variance and is a good measure of central tendency. The mean is useful if most of your data is symmetric and variance is not too high (i.e. range is relatively small) as a measure of central tendency. Elapsed-time is an example where median is more useful than the average because distributions of this type tend to show large outliers and skew averages to higher values than are really typical. Hope this helped
