A machine used to make badges costs $150. It costs $2 to make each badge. Part A: Write a function to show the total cost f(n) of making n badges. (4 points) Part B: What is the total cost of making 20 badges? (4 points) Part C: If the cost of the machine was $20 more, what would be the cost of making 7 badges? (2 points) Can anyone help? please

OpenStudy (nikato):

A. 150+2n you have a set amount of 150 for the machine and then plug the number of badges,n, each costing 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am still a little confused

OpenStudy (mertsj):

How much does it cost to make 1 badge?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$2.00 to make each badge

OpenStudy (mertsj):

So to make 2 badges is $2.00(2) So to make 3 badges is $2.00(3) So to make 4 badges is $2.00(4) How much to make n badges?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

14 am i right?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

So to make 2 badges is $2.00(2) So to make 3 badges is $2.00(3) So to make 4 badges is $2.00(4) So to make n badges is $2.00n

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im still confused i know that to make a badge it cost $2.00

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Maybe you are confused by the letter n. Let's use the letter x. If it cost $2 for one badge, how much for 2 badges?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$4.00

OpenStudy (mertsj):

How much for 3 badges?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$6.00

OpenStudy (mertsj):

How much for 8 badges?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$16.00

OpenStudy (mertsj):

How much for 13 badges?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$26.00

OpenStudy (mertsj):

How much for x badges?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

x badges cost 2x

OpenStudy (mertsj):

y badges cost 2y

OpenStudy (mertsj):

z badges cost 2z

OpenStudy (mertsj):

a badges cost 2a

OpenStudy (mertsj):

b badges cost 2b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so x=2?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

c badges cost 2c

OpenStudy (mertsj):

d badges cost 2d

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Let's say you babysit and earn 5 dollars per hour. How much would you earn if you worked x hours?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i still dont know x

OpenStudy (mertsj):

That is exactly the point. x represents an unknown number. But however many hours it is, it must be multiplied by 5 to find how much the people owe you for watching their little brat.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha so i need to answer three parts of the question

OpenStudy (mertsj):

It is the same with the badges. You don't know how many badges are going to be made but you know that each one costs 2 dollars. So for an unknown number of badges ...let's say for n badges...it will cost 2n to make them plus the cost of the machine.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i get that

OpenStudy (mertsj):

so to make n badges, it costs 150+2n

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes
