The atomic masses in the periodic table are not integral numbers. For example, carbon is listed as 12.011 amu (atomic mass unit) instead of 12.000 amu. Why?

because These elements have isotopes. Carbon has three isotopes C-12, C-13, C-14. which have different atomic masses as shown. in periodic table the average mass of C is given according to their % of presence. http://www.wikihow.com/Calculate-Atomic-Mass
