What is y=3/4x+2 y=3/4x

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

If you graph the two equations, you'll notice that they are parallel lines. You can determine this without even graphing. The two slopes are both equal to 3/4. When you have equal slopes, the lines will be parallel

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Since the lines are parallel, this means that the lines will NEVER cross So there are no solutions to this system of equations. They need to cross at least once to get at least one solution.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I should clarify: when the slopes are equal and the y-intercepts are different, then you'll have 2 parallel lines that never cross.
