Flatland was written by Edwin Abbott Abbott in 1884, and features a square trying to get the King of Lineland to understand the way she sees everything. This excerpt, taken from section 14, "How Vainly I tried to Explain the nature of Flatland", displays the square desperately trying to get the King of Lineland to see that not everything is made of lines that go on in one direction. This passage, I feel, doesn't really help explain lines and planes. It does, however, help explain that lines can only move in one direction, while squares can go all directions. For example, when the square begins to move out of Lineland, the King can see her until she was no longer on the line. This also helps show how different the world would be if there were only North and South. (I'll be adding a conclusion in a bit, but I'm stumped on the title..)

Square's Earthquest ... maybe that's the title
