A box contains gold coins. If the coins are equally divided among six friends, four coins are left over. If the coins are equally divided among five friends, three coins are left over. If the box holds the smallest number of coins that meets these two conditions, how many coins are left when equally divided among seven friends?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

that gives x= -1 ?? each condition will have different multiplier N = 6x + 4 try x=1,2,3... each time check if N/5 has remainder of 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 2?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

no its not 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i meant is the remainder 2 when divide by 7? I found n = 58

OpenStudy (anonymous):

58 coins that is

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

no there is a smaller N

OpenStudy (anonymous):

N = 28?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that would make remainder = 0 when divide 7

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

correct ... medals to you @dineshkumar2506 i hope you are paying attention
