first u have to calculate the length of each square
the length of each square (L)= 5cm/5 =1 (bcoz there are 5 squares in the base and it's length is 5cm
to calculate the area of the shape calculate the area of each square
area of square=l^2=1^2=1cm^2
the area of the shape = number of squares *the area of 1 square
area of the shape =9*1=9cm^2
