I NEED HELP simplifying. .-.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

figure it out .

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

Hello and Welcome to OpenStudy! :) what would you like to simplify?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Fractions .. 12 over 30

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

cool :) so what factors do 12 and 30 have in common? like what number can they both be divided by?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3.? i don't know :/

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yeah! :) we can do 3 so 12 divided by 3 = 4 and 30 divided by 3 = 10 so you can get that the fraction 12 over 30 = 4 over 10 see where I'm going with this? ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yess thank you (:

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

then you look if fraction 4 over 10 can be simplified more! so what factor does 4 and 10 have in common?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yep :) so 4 divided by 2 = 2 and 10 divided by 2 = 5 so you've gotten 12 over 30 = 4 over 10 = 2 over 5 then you would check to see if 2 and 5 have any factors in common which they don't ;) so you're left with 2 over 5 as simplified :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(: Thanks

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

Glad I could help :) Best of Luck for your journey on OpenStudy!
