the formula for area of a circle is \[a=\pi r^2\] the formula for area of square is l * w in this picture the radius of the circle is given , it is 2 inches. if we insert this into our formula we get \[a=\pi2^2\] so the area of the circle is 12.56 next, as you can see 2 inches is 1/2 of the side length of the square so the length od the square's side is 4 inches so you do 4 * 4 whick is 16 subtract the area of the circle from the area of the square 16-12.56 your answer should be that the area of the shaded portion is 3.4 (exact is 3.44) Hope This Helped !!
