do you know how to distribute through the parenthesis ?
take the number outside of the parenthesis and multiply it by everything in the parenthesis. So, 5g + 4(-5 + 3g) = 1 - g, would become.. 5g + 4 * -5 + 4 * 3g = 1 - g 5g - 20 + 12g = 1 - g -- combine like terms 17g - 20 = 1 - g -- add g to both sides 17g + g - 20 = 1 --- add 20 to both sides 17g + g = 1 + 20 -- combine like terms 18g = 21 g = 21/18 check... 18g = 21 18(21/18) = 21 21 = 21 (correct) answer : g = 21/18
